A survey of Venetian art and architecture from its Byzantine origins through the modern era. The seminar reads the city's buildings, paintings, mosaics, and public spaces as primary texts, situating them within the political, economic, and environmental conditions that produced them. Venice's artistic and architectural traditions are understood not as autonomous cultural achievements but as integral dimensions of the city's territorial project.
